Jalgaon History
Jalgaon History - The Jalgaon of today was a part of erstwhile Khandesh State. The Known as Saranjam then, it was under the rule of Farruqi dynasty of Barhanpur. Later, Maratha took the city under their wings and fittingly it was a Maratha royal Bhoite who brought about its renovation.
The name Saranjam stayed with the city throughout the British rule when it was a part of Bombay Presidency. It was only in 1953 that it was renamed Jalgaon.
Even after the abolition of monarchy in post independent India, Bhoites continued to be de facto rulers. They had built Bhoite Gadhi – a grand mansion – to take care of administrative work.
However, heirs of these rulers scattered in 1970s but many of them still live in Bhoitenagar suburban of the city.
